The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is the United States government's principal agency for protecting the health and well-being of all Americans by providing essential health and human services, and fostering advances in medicine, public health and social services. The Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) serves this objective by leading the development and implementation of an enterprise information technology (IT) infrastructure across HHS.

The Challenge

Identifying a critical need for improved IT program management and support services vital to the HHS mission, the department sought to implement effective, efficient methods that align with HHS OCIO program management and enterprise architecture initiatives.

The Solution

Providing support to the OCIO level demands a strategic and overarching understanding of Health IT to identify priorities, challenges and solutions cohesive with sound decision making. HHS chose tiag to support the development of the HHS IT Strategic Plan 2017-2020 and Enterprise IT Governance Roadmap, and to recommend a variety of IT business process improvements and best practices to facilitate improved planning, governance and policy. tiag developed standard operating procedures and an IT acquisition process and toolkit, in addition to implementing a technology analysis and management process to identify and manage the Department’s IT portfolio.

The Result

tiag’s IT program management services and solutions resulted in significant improvements for the Departments’ IT portfolio/program management and governance. Advancing the HHS goal for a fully integrated department, tiag provides enterprise Federal Information Technology Acquisition Reform Act (FITARA) implementation, strategic planning, governance, analysis, and business process improvement support in the areas of budget, acquisition, enterprise performance life cycle portfolio management, data management, communications, general project and program management, and enterprise architecture. tiag also designs and facilitates strategy development and implementation sessions to maximize government and contract resources, increase customer service to staff and operating divisions, and optimize organizational performance.
