U.S. Army Regional Health Command – Atlantic (RHC-A)
RHC-A was previously known as Northern Regional Medical Command (NRMC). In 2015, with approval from the Secretary of the Army followed by operational order from U.S. Army Medical Command (MEDCOM), NRMC became Regional Health Command-Atlantic—the largest health command in Army Medicine. RHC-A provides Army units within its area of responsibility support through the provision of trained and ready medical personnel. RHC-A comprises more than 17,000 staff members who focus on proactive, patient-centered health care for approximately 600,000 service members, retirees and their families. The RHC-A region includes all Army medical centers, hospitals and clinics east of the Mississippi River. RHC-A is also responsible for the dental and public health missions of the Regional Dental Command-Atlantic and Public Health Command Region Atlantic.
The customer (formerly NRMC) was experiencing revolutionary transformation and required flexible, quick reaction in support of information management/information technology infrastructure and operations, including the need to mitigate and resolve cybersecurity/information assurance (IA) issues and concerns.
tiag supported the NRMC IA sections and performed vulnerability assessments for NRMC utilizing Army and Department of Defense (DoD)-approved scan tools (among them, eEye Digital Retina, Army Gold Master, and Defense Information System Agency (DISA) Gold Disk). tiag took a lead role in enabling NRMC to comply with Army and MEDCOM IA guidelines and specifications, including Information Assurance Vulnerability Management (IAVM), DoD Information Assurance Certification and Accreditation Process (DIACAP) efforts, and security incident response services.
Helping to prevent ransomware attacks and protect the Army’s medical network and devices from future cybersecurity vulnerabilities, tiag adapted the Army’s newly adopted Risk Management Framework (RMF) cybersecurity accreditation process in this work to convert sites from the prior DoD Information Assurance Certification and Accreditation Process (DIACAP) to RMF. Delivering cybersecurity solutions, enterprise management and web support for the entire region by hosting the customer’s internet and intranet platforms, tiag also provided services for data analytics, infrastructure optimization and business intelligence.
Conducting comprehensive evaluation and implementation of IA policy throughout the region, as well as technological support to remediate security vulnerabilities and for accreditation of systems and applications, tiag responded to, documented, classified and remediated security events, in addition to assisting with building, and converting DIACAP accreditation packages for applications, systems and networks to RMF packages and submitting them for approval. tiag’s IA experts and Enterprise Management team provided local remediation and regional solutions to IA-related issues and taskers. In addition, tiag experts evaluated guidance and policies from the Information Assurance Manager and MEDCOM, established regional policy, implemented tested repeatable solutions, and tracked the progress of the corrective actions to remediate non-compliance. To ensure IAVM compliance and to provide end users with necessary applications complete their mission, tiag also created and maintained an up-to-date image library.
