Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS)
The USUHS is a worldwide center of excellence for military and public health professions, education, and research. The primary mission of the USUHS is to train, educate, and prepare uniformed services health professionals, officers, and leaders to directly support the Military Health System, the National Security and National Defense Strategies of the United States, and the readiness of our Armed Forces.
Network vulnerabilities put the USUHS military network at risk of disconnection from the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) managed Global Information Grid (GIG) unless these vulnerabilities were successfully remediated. This would have severely affected the USUHS mission and put at risk the education programs it provides.
tiag performed a broad scope of information assurance remediation work. The three focus areas were the USUHS network infrastructure, computing devices, and implementing an upgraded Service Desk tool. Network scanning tools, including DISA Gold Disk (Platinum Level) and eEye Digital Retina/REM, were used to identify vulnerabilities on network devices, workstations, laptops, and multifunction printing devices.
The network remediation task involved designing and deploying a new virtual local area network architecture for the entire network, including upgrading the operating system versions on 100+ switches and routers. The computing device vulnerability remediation task consisted of creating and deploying Microsoft and third party software patches to 2500+ workstations and laptops via Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007, creating and deploying DISA Gold Disk compliant Windows XP, Windows 7 and Mac OS X 10.x images, and performing DISA Gold Disk remediation on Windows Server 2003 and 2008 systems.
In service of the USUHS, tiag security professionals provided the full suite of Department of Defense Information Assurance Certification and Accreditation Process remediation services to achieve an Authority to Operate for their military network circuit. Our cybersecurity experts enhanced the organization’s security through the hardening of network infrastructure, remediation of security vulnerabilities, and establishment of compliance documentation.
